1. Applicable Product Categories for Automobile SKD
Automobile SKD (Semi-Knocked Down) is a mainstream solution for OEMs to realize overseas localized production, mainly applicable to 4-wheel passenger vehicles, including compact/mid-to-large sedans, SUVs, MPVs, and light commercial vehicles with a gross mass ≤3.5t, meeting the localized production demands of emerging markets such as Southeast Asia, the Middle East and South America.
2. System Definition of Automobile SKD Assembly Line
The Automobile SKD Assembly Line is the core production equipment supporting the semi-knocked down assembly mode. It adopts a modular transportation scheme, shipping core components such as powertrains, chassis and cockpits in pre-assembled status to the target factory, and forms complete vehicles through localized marriage processes, adapting to the batch production demands of multiple passenger vehicle models. The assembly line uses a skid-type accumulation conveyor as the core ground conveying carrier, which can cover models with a wheelbase of 2500-3200mm, with positioning accuracy of ±1mm and operating vibration amplitude ≤0.05mm, avoiding assembly deviations of precision components.
3. Main Processes of Automobile SKD Assembly Line
- Chassis Module Marriage: The pre-assembled chassis module (including powertrain, suspension and braking system) is accurately docked with the body via a servo lifting device. Torque-controlled tightening tools are used for bolt connection, with torque error ≤±2%. All tightening data is uploaded to the MES system for 100% traceability, and the docking and sealing of oil/gas/electrical pipelines are completed synchronously.
- Cockpit Module Installation: The pre-assembled and verified cockpit module (including instrument panel, seats and air conditioning system) is transferred to the body workstation via lifting equipment, to complete wiring harness docking and interior trim panel assembly, with a docking accuracy rate of 100%.
- Exterior and Accessory Installation: Components such as doors, front and rear bumpers, wheels, glass, carpets and steering wheels are installed sequentially. Dedicated positioning fixtures are used to control the body gap and flush difference within ≤0.3mm, meeting appearance quality requirements.
- End-of-Line (EOL) Functional Testing: A comprehensive EOL testing bench is used to verify 12 electronic system functions including lights, wipers, air conditioners, audio systems and airbags one by one, with unqualified items alarmed and rejected in real time.
- Dynamic Performance Testing: The vehicle is tested on a chassis dynamometer to verify dynamic indicators such as 0-100km/h acceleration, braking distance (≤40m), steering returnability and chassis abnormal noise, to ensure the vehicle performance complies with the regulations of the target market.
- Rain Test: A heavy rain environment with a spray intensity of ≥50mm/min is simulated for 15 minutes, focusing on testing the sealing performance of doors, sunroofs, air conditioner drains and other parts. No water leakage is regarded as qualified.
4. Characteristics of Automobile SKD Assembly Line
- Significant Comprehensive Cost Advantage: The transportation volume of SKD semi-knocked down parts is 30%-40% lower than that of complete vehicles, and the import tariff is 20%-35% lower than that of complete vehicles. The comprehensive logistics + tariff cost per vehicle is reduced by 15%-25%, giving it obvious cost competitiveness over complete vehicle import.
- Outstanding Production Efficiency: Pre-assembly of core modules reduces local assembly processes by more than 40%. The single-shift capacity can reach 80-120 units, and the assembly cycle per vehicle is 30% shorter than that of the CKD mode, adapting to large-scale rapid mass production demands.
- Strong Technical Adaptability: Local workers can operate independently after only 7 days of training. Core powertrains and electronic control modules are fully traceable and controlled by the OEM, which not only retains the OEM’s control over core technologies and avoids technology leakage risks, but also reduces the requirements for local workers’ assembly skills.
